“Pilgrims open horizons”
– Austria –
The pilgrimage relay leads 80 km in four stages through Tyrol, organised by the Jakobsgemeinschaft Tirol.
The pilgrim enters the province of Tyrol in Scharnitz at the historic Porta Claudia dam, hikes across a beautiful plateau to the internationally famous town of Seefeld, and from there descends deep into the Inn Valley via Reith bei Seefeld. From Zirl, the trail leads to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, and finally through the Wipptal valley with the communities of Matrei am Brenner, Steinach and Gries am Brenner to the most important crossing in the Alps, the Brenner Pass.
The pilgrim thus hikes through varied landscapes and vegetation, cultural highlights, places steeped in history and Tyrolean hospitality on what has always been the most important Alpine route to the south.
