2. Stage of the VIA ROMEA

Heath – Urban isles in wide open fields

The North German Plain stretches between the coast and the Harz mountains. The heath rich in moors expands where the subsoil is formed not by loess soil, but by sand. The second region of the pilgrim route leads through towns and small villages on the edge of the heath.

03 Zeven – Gyhum

On the third stage of the VIA ROMEA from Zeven to Gyhum, we experience a hike through the flat landscape of Northern Germany. We cross small villages and walk along the “Königsmoor”.

04 Gyhum – Scheeßel

The fourth stage on the Pilgrim route of the VIA ROMEA is from Gyhum to Scheeßel. Relatively flat route through the wide northern plain flatland. Scheeßel offers everything that a pilgrim needs.

05 Scheeßel – Bellen

All information on the road

A flat tour, which is characterized by a bog landscape in many sections. Bellen as a stopover is very small and does not offer any shopping possibilities. Please fill in provisions in Brockel.

06 Bellen – Neuenkirchen

The sixth stage on the Pilgrim route “VIA ROMEA” leads from the small village Bellen to Neuenkirchen. The tour is characterized by bog landscapes and the course of the “Hahnenbach”, which accompanies us throughout the entire route.

07 Neuenkirchen – Soltau

The seventh stage of the Pilgrim route VIA ROMEA leads from Neuenkirchen to Soltau. On the western edge of the Lüneburg Heath, the trail leads through the heath landscapes and bogs.

08 Soltau – Wietzendorf

The eigth stage of the Pilgrim route of the VIA ROMEA leads from Soltau to Wietzendorf. Along a railway line, passing the NATO’s military training centre, we go through the forest for a long time. In Wietzendorf, the goal is the Jakobikirche (Church) in the town centre.

09 Wietzendorf – Bergen

The 9th stage of the Pilgrim route VIA ROMEA leads from Wietzendorf to the town of Bergen. The hike leads through the unique Wietzendorfer bog and through small villages along a varied landscape with open spaces and small groves to Bergen.

10 Bergen – Sülze

The 10th stage of the Pilgrim route VIA ROMEA leads from Bergen to the village of Sülze. Past barrows to Wohlde through small groves and open spaces to the small saline village Sülze.

11 Sülze – Celle

All information on the road

On the Pilgrim route VIA ROMEA, the 11th stage leads from Sülze to Celle. The first part is caracterized by the village settlements Sülze and Eversen. Then, a long part through the forest follows, before continuing straight through fields and groves to the town of Celle.
