The Danube was the main traffic axis connecting the west to the east. At geographically useful locations, the south-north-roads crossed the Danube, like in Regensburg or in Donauwörth. Important Roman roads led to the important river crossings.
45 Donauwörth – Markt Meitingen

On the way from Donauwörth to Meitingen, many small villages are crossed. We go past the monastery of Holzen, which was founded in 1150, according to a tradition.
46 Markt Meitingen – Augsburg
All information on the route
From Meitingen to Augsburg, we go along the Lech canal. Here, the tour which runs slightly off the canal is described. There is also the possibility to walk directly along the water of the canal.
47 Augsburg – Igling

On the pilgrim route VIA ROMEA from Augsburg to Igling, we cross some smaller villages, such as “Königsbrunn” and “Untermeitingen” with the monastery of Lechfeld (Kloster Lechfeld).
48 Igling – Schongau
All information on the route
The day stage from Igling to Schongau on the VIA ROMEA leads through smaller villages, such as “Erpfing”, “Unterdießen”, “Denklingen”, “Hohenfurch” and “Altenstadt”.
